Hooded Poncho with Footed Pants

Sizes:   Small Preemie, Large Preemie, Newborn
Materials:   4 ounces baby yarn, 5 ounce sport yarn, 8 ounces worsted weight yarn;
Crochet hook size G (H, I);
One 9/16" button.
Gauge:   With sport yarn and H hook, 9dc=2", 5 rows dc=2".

Poncho   Beginning at neck, loosely ch 36 sts.
Row 1 (right side):   Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 7 ch, * 3 dc in next ch (mark center st), 1 dc in each of next 7 ch, repeat from * twice, 2 dc in last ch.
Row 2:   Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, work 2 dc in 1st st, dc to first marker (shoulder point), 3 dc in marked st, dc to 2nd marker (back point), 5dc in marked st, dc to 3rd marker (shoulder point), 3 dc in marked st, dc to last st, 3 dc in top of ch 3.
Row 3:   Ch 3, turn, work 1 dc in 1st st, * dc to marker, 3 dc in marked st, repeat from * twice, dc to last st, 2 dc in top of ch 3.
Row 4:   Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in 1st st, * dc to first shoulder marker, 3 dc in marked st, dc to back marker, work 5 dc in marked st, dc to 2nd shoulder marker, 3 dc in marked st, dc to end of row working 3 dc in top of ch 3.
Row 5 (Joining Row):   Repeat Row 3 ending with dc in top of ch 3, sl st in top of beg ch3.
Row 6:   Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in same st, Repeat Row 4 ending with 2 dc in same st as beg ch (a 5 st inc same as back point).
Row 7:   Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in same st, Repeat Row 3 ending with 1 dc in same st as beg ch.
Repeat Rows 6 and 7 two (two, three) times or until desired length ending with Row 7. Fasten off.
Edging:   With CC and right side facing, work one row of reverse sc around lower edge of poncho. Fasten off.

Hood:   Beg at right front and working along opposite side of starting ch, attach yarn in first ch, ch 2, dc in next 7 ch, 2 dc in next ch, dc in next 7 ch, 3 dc in next ch (back of neck), mark center st of ch 3, dc in next 7 ch, 2 dc in next ch, dc to end.
Row 2:   Ch 2, turn, dc in 2nd st and in each st across. Do not dc in top of ch 2 (this makes a dec at front edge).
Row 3:   Ch 2, turn, dc in 2nd st and in each st to marker, 3 dc in marked st, dc in each st to end. Do not dc in top of ch 2.
Row 4:   Repeat Row 2.
Row 5:   Ch 3, turn, repeat Row 3.
Row 6:   Ch 3, turn, repeat Row 2 ending dc in top of ch 3.
Row 7:   Ch 3, turn, repeat Row 3 ending dc in top of ch 3.
Repeat Rows 6 and 7 twice.
Fold hood with right sides tog. Ch 1, sc two sides tog working through back loops. Fasten off.

Edging:
Row 1:
  With MC, working in ends of rows, sc around front opening and front edge of hood. Fasten off.
Row 2:   With CC, beg at left neck edge, work one row reverse sc across front edge of hood to right neck edge. Sl st in last st at right front neck, ch 7, sl st in same st. Fasten off. Sew button securely at left neck edge opposite button loop.

Pants:
Beg at waist edge, loosely ch 54. Join with sl st in first ch.
Rnd 1:   Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each ch around, join with sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnds 2 - 8:   Ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch 3. 54 sts.
Rnd 9:   Ch 3, dc in same st as ch 3, dc in next 26 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 26 sts, dc in same st as beg ch 3, join with sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnd 10 (Right Leg):   Ch 3, dc in same st as ch 3, dc in next 28 sts, 2 dc in next st, leave remaining sts unworked, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. 32 sts.
Rnds 11 - 21:   Ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnd 22:   Ch 3, dc in next st, *dec over next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * 6 times, dec over last 2 sts, join with sl st in top of ch 3. 24 sts.
Rnd 23:   Ch 3, * dec over next 2 sts, dc in next st, repeat from * 6 times, dec over last 2 sts, join with sl st in top of ch 3. 16 sts.
Rnd 24:   Ch 2 (dec), * dec over next 2 sts, repeat from * around, dc in last st, join with sl st in top of first dc. 8 sts.
Cut yarn leaving a 12" length. Turn leg wrong side out, weave yarn through sts of last rnd, pull up tightly, fasten off.
Left Leg: Rnd 10:   Join yarn in last worked st of Rnd 9, ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 28 sts, 2 dc in top of beg ch 3 of Rnd 9. Join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. 32 sts.
Repeat Rnds 11 - 24.   Finish same as right leg.
With MC, working along opposite side of starting ch, sc around waist of pants.
Tie: With double strand of MC, make a ch 24" long. Fasten off. Weave tie through dc sts at waist of pants. Knot ends.
