Long Kimono Gown with Cap

Sizes: Small Preemie, Large Preemie, Fullterm
Materials: 3 ounces MC fingering yarn, (4 ounces 3 ply baby yarn, 6 ounces baby sport yarn) and 1 ounce CC for each size;
Crochet hook size E (F, G); 2 yards 1/4 inch wide ribbon.
Gauge: With 3 ply baby yarn and F hook, 2dc and 1 shell=1 1/4".
Yoke: Beginning at neckline with MC, ch 50. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. 48 dc (beg ch 3 counts as 1 dc).
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, * hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * across ending hdc in last 4 sts. 59 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, * hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * across ending with hdc in last 5 sts. 68 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, * hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * across ending with hdc in last 4 sts. 76 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, * hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * across ending with hdc in last 4 sts. 88 sts.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, hdc in next 12 sts, ch 5, skip 20 sts for sleeve, hdc in next 24 sts for back, ch 5, skip 20 sts for sleeve, hdc in last 12 sts, turn.
Skirt:
Row 1 (right side): Working in back loops of sts, ch 3, dc in next st , *skip next st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st (beginning V-St made), repeat from * across to last 3 sts, skip next st, dc in last 2 sts, turn. (27 beg. V-Sts)
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next st, *(2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in next V-St, 2dc in next V-St, repeat from * across ending (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in last V-St, dc in last 2 dc, turn. (14 V-Sts with 2dc between)
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *(2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in next V-St, sk 2dc of V-St, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * across, turn.
Repeat Row 3 until length from shoulder is approximately 12" (15", 18") ending on wrong side, turn.
Last Row: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch space across. Working 3 sc at corners, continue to sc up the opening edge, around the neck, and down the other opening edge. Join. Fasten off and weave in end of yarn on wrong side.
Ruffle Yoke Edging: On right side of gown, working in front loops of Row 6 of Yoke, join CC with a sl st in first st after opening edge. *Ch 3, sc in next st, repeat from * around yoke and sleeves. Fasten off and weave in end of yarn on wrong side.
Weave 18" length of ribbon through dc at neck edge, leaving equal length at each end, tie at the opening. Sew 12" lengths of ribbon at the lower edge of yoke at the opening. Tie for second closure. Kimono may be tied in the back for a burial gown. Small bows or other decorations may be added to the front. If desired, skirt may be lined with a soft fabric such as lightweight flannel.
Cap:
Rnd 1: Ch 4, join with a sl st to form ring.
Ch 1, work 12 hdc in ring, join in top of first hdc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, * 2 dc in next st,
repeat from * around, join with sl st in top of ch 3. 24 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next st, dc in next st,
repeat from * around, ending 2 dc in last st, join with sl st in top of ch 3. 36 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 4, dc in same st, * sk next st, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, repeat from * around, sk last st, join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch 4. 18 V-Sts.
Rnd 5: Sl st into ch 1 sp of beg V-St, Ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2dc in same sp, *2dc in next V-St, (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in next V-St, repeat from * around ending 2dc in last V-St. Join in top of beg ch 3, turn. (9 V-Sts with 2dc between)
Rnd 6: Sl st into first dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, *(2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in next ch 1 sp, sk 2dc of V-St, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * around, join in top of ch 3, turn.
Rnd 7: Sl st to first ch 1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2dc) in ch 1 sp, sk 2 dc of V-St, dc in next 2 dc, *(2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in next ch 1 sp, sk 2dc of V-St, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * around, join in top of ch 3, turn.
Rnds 8 & 9: Repeat Rnds 6 & 7. Do not turn at the end of last rnd.
Rnd 10: Working in back lps only, ch 3, dc in each st and ch around. Join with sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnd 11: Working in back lps only, sc in each st around. Fasten off.
Ruffle Edging: Working in free lps of sts on rnds 10 and 11, repeat ruffle edging of gown. Fasten off and weave in end of yarn. Weave ribbon through dc sts of Rnd 10. Adjust to fit. Tie in a bow.
